Explanation

•PPD (Purified protein derivative) or tuberculosis skin tests should be read 48-to-72 hours after administration.

•Any induration (raised, hardened, or blistered area) is measured perpendicular to the long axis of the forearm and recorded in millimeters. Redness is not measured.

•A tuberculin reaction is positive if it is greater-than-or-equal-to 15 mm. In certain high-risk groups, less than 15 mm may be considered positive.
